Where are the RBTOs located? 

The BTL Lab is located in Pune, India. ​

Who will be performing the testing of my device? 

The BTL Lab is a Recognized BACnet Testing Organization administered by BACnet International and operated by Protocol Test Lab (PTL) in Pune, India. The PTL facility is ISO-accredited and has completed hundreds of BACnet product tests.  

What is the process for BTL Certificate renewal testing? 

BTL Certificate renewal testing is a type of differential testing for product models that have a current BTL Certificate and have not included any changes to the BACnet portion of the product. This type of testing does require BTL Certificate renewal testing approval prior to testing. 

Once testing is completed, what are the next steps? 

  • A Final Test Report will be issued by the BTL Lab. 

  • Apply for BTL Certification by completing the online BTL Certification Application.

  • As part of the online BTL Certification Application, you will be asked to provide the following items: 

    • Final Test Report 

    • PICS 

    • BTL Functionality Checklist 

    • Product image (for BACnet International Members) 


​When BTL Lab Testing has been completed, can I use the BTL Mark? 

No, successfully completing BTL testing is not sufficient to obtain the right to use the BTL Mark. A successful test report must be submitted for Certification. Only after obtaining BTL Certification can you use the BTL Mark. More information on Certification can be found here.

How long does testing take? 

  • This will vary based on the functionality of your device and the defects found 

  • The BACnet Testing Laboratory does offer expedited testing. 

What type of testing is completed at the lab?  

The testing performed at the BTL Lab follows the requirements established by the BTL Working Group to verify conformance with ASHRAE Standard 135. Specific testing is required based on the claims documented in your BTL Functionality Checklist. The BTL Lab is required to test all claimed functionality for conformance with ASHRAE Standard 135.

What is the relationship between BACnet International, Testing Services, and BTL Lab? 

BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of BACnet in building automation and control systems through product certification, educational programs, and promotional activities. 

 

The BTL Lab is a Recognized BACnet Testing Organization (RBTO) administered by BACnet International and operated by Protocol Test Lab (PTL) in Pune, India. 

 

The Testing Services team is a group within BACnet International that is responsible for administering the BTL Lab.
